The Science Education section of the ‘New York Academy of Sciences’ will honor Dr. Sat Bhattacharya for the Harlem Children Society’s mentoring program, which he founded in 2000 to open opportunities in science to young people from under-resourced and under-represented communities.

Over the past 5 years, Harlem Children's Society has grown exponentially – increasing enrollment from 3 students from 2 high schools guided personally by Dr. Bhattacharya in 2000, to 103 students from 35 schools who are engaged with over 125 mentors in 45 leading institutions in the country in 2005, in an intensive summer (8-12-weeks) and after-school research program.
