About:

All thanks to Dr. Sat Bhattacharya and Harlem Children Society who provided me this splendid opportunity for doing what my passion lies in. This summer of 2005 I was given an opportunity to do research in Columbia University on Celiac Disease. I am Littin Kandoth, student of H.S. for Medical Science. I am currently a sophomore in high school. During my freshman year I happened to hear about the research internship program Dr. Sat was offering to students and I applied for it. Among the fifteen students selected by our counselor eight were handpicked by Dr. Sat after an interview. I was fortunate enough to be one among them.

As my freshman year came to an end we were called for an orientation, which gave us insight about our mentors and also about the program. I was put for the internship at Columbia University under the guidance of Dr. John Sanil Manavalan. He is one of the finest persons I ever met in my life. He is also an excellent teacher. Under him I worked for 2 months on celiac disease. My project was “Immunology of Celiac Disease”.

This summer of 2005 is one of the most memorable parts of my life. During this summer I realized the values of determination, punctuality and group work, through this program. This program is the first stepping-stone on the way to my ambitious research scientist career. Beyond all these the most important thing this program taught me was that, there is much more left for you to learn in your life.

All these lessons make me great full and indebted to Dr. Sat and Harlem Children Society.
