; URL: http://w.wwHCS2k.org | | | | | Wednesday, December 30, 2009 | | Dear Friends: | | | Season’s Greetings from all students and HCS family. There is no legacy more lasting than providing educational opportunities and hope for the benefit of future generations – especially the under-resourced and under-served – who perhaps would not be able to make it without help from generous supporters.
We are very proud of our many accomplishments and invite and request your help in participating in rebuilding our communities by preparing our youth in skills developing our future potential for the 21st Century Work force in service of humanity – and developing a responsible citizenry.
This is but one of the voices of the Harlem Children Society (HCS). Dedicated to promoting an innovative hands-on research program for youth living in under-resourced and under-served US communities, HCS engages young minds in a robust enquiry of the world and exposes them to opportunities in the sciences. | | Harlem Children Society sprang from the dream of creating a better community through a shared vision of academic inquiry and scholastic achievement despite the odds against success based on financial and societal limitations. From the launch of the initial program in 2001 with one mentor, one institution, and three gifted students from such communities to the 2009 program involving over 1500 mentors, 200 partner institutions, and over 400 students (96% of minority backgrounds) from 200 schools, HCS has demonstrated exponential growth and sustainability with full community support. HCS’s impressive success is directly attributable to its innovative model. The organizational centerpiece features a unique collaboration between schools, teachers, government organizations, industry professionals, university faculty, community leaders and contributing foundations, and is the quintessential formula for encouraging achievement in the most diligent, deserving students from impoverished backgrounds. As of 2009, without exception, all HCS students graduating high school, who applied, were admitted to college/university, with 20% attending Ivy League schools. As we enter our 1oth year, undaunted even by the formidable challenges of our economic times, our focus is to expand our programs to prepare an even greater number of deserving youth to move into the future. | | Your generous contribution – especially in these trying times will go a long way to secure our future. | | | We hope that you will take this extraordinary financial opportunity to invest in the future, and urge you to consider making your tax-deductible contribution to our HCS End of the Year Campaign by December 31, 2009. We also hope you will consider us for future ongoing contributions. Your generous support will be instrumental in enabling HCS to further advance its goals in serving more children and expanding not only its New York flagship program, but its programs in struggling urban communities in Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Washington, DC, and the Reservations of Hopi and Navajo Native Americans in the Painted Desert.
Your tax-deductible gift will be instrumental in furthering our efforts to educate, participate in re-building in our communities, and shaping society’s future generation at large. It’s easy and you can make your donation by check or credit card. Even modest donations, say $10 or $25, or $50, or any other donations that you deem appropriate and suitable, can add up quickly and make a difference in the lives of our most precious resource: our YOUTH and COMMUNITY.
Thank you for renewing our hope in the future to ensure students have the science and engineering skills they will need not only to survive, but also to flourish and strengthen our communities and nation. Sincerely | | Dr. Sat Bhattacharya, M.S., M.Sc., DCS, PhD, FRMS (Oxford), Founder, President & CEO, Harlem Children Society, 536 East 82 St, Suite # 5F, New York, N.Y. 10028.
