Nasrin AkterClass of 2006 High School for Medical Science Topic: Varying Alcohol Concentrations The Rats Drink Presentation (ppt) About: Hi, my name is Nasrin Akter. I’m from High School of Medical Sciences. All thanks to Dr. Sat Bhattacharya and Harlem Children Society who provided me this splendid opportunity for doing what my passion lies in. Let me tell you guys a story of my life. When my guidance counselor was looking for students to participate in summer internships programs, I immediately signed up to work in the hospital with Dr. Sat just to give it a try. But the day of the interview I was extremely nervous I couldn't even know what to say or what to do. Dr. Sat made things easier, he asked about my family members, what I do on my spare time. He basically wanted to get to know me I guess. But I thought he will ask me questions that I don’t even have an answer for, but I guess I was wrong. After two weeks of the interview I have received a letter from my guidance counselor saying that, “I’m qualified to work with Dr. Sat”. I was so happy, my friends were so proud of me. On 6th of July I was called for an orientation, which gave us insight about the program, and etc. where I have met new interesting peoples such as my group members and leaders. This summer of 2006 I was given an opportunity to do research in Hunter College on Varying Alcohol Concentrations the rats drink. My mentor was Dr. Michael Lewis, my co-workers were Micki and Daisy I will never forget you guys. I worked every Mondays to Wednesdays with my mentor and my co-workers. Every Thursday, I had meetings with Dr. Sat that gives each student the opportunity to make a PowerPoint presentation about his/her project so that we can all learn together because the aim of this project is to learn and also assist each other. This summer of 2006 was one of the most memorable parts of my life. During this summer I realized the values of determination, punctuality and group work, through this program. This summer was the best of all. It is remarkable the kind of opportunity Dr Sat Bhattacharya and the Harlem Children society have given me over this summer of 2006. They have given me the prospect to explore my interests. I find it incredible what Dr. Sat Bhattacharya is doing. He is giving students the chance to bring out their interests, curiosity, and enthusiasm to explore the different interest in the medical and research fields. I wish to follow his footstep so some day I have my own career after gradating high school. I have learned a lot this summer, from the lab to the lectures that were held. I met new people and build up a stronger and brighter character. I also have gained a lot of experiences from this field. Once again thanks to Dr. Sat and also the Harlem children society and also to my friends that have encouraged me to join this program. |
