About:

I have always been interest in plants and botany. That’s why I decided to participated in Harlem Children Society program. I always like to learn about plants and their natural environment. In this program, I had the opportunity to learn a lot of different things that I never knew before such as hydroponics, aquaponics, building things that might helps us survive in the future if there are limited resources.

I was assigned to work with Mr. Gonzales, my mentor. He though me a lot of things over the summer. I had the opportunity to work in a greenhouse! I measure the pH and E.C of plants. I also learned how to take care of plants. I also build a hydroponic system. My system grew more than 100 plants! With this system, you can grow a lot of plants and never run out. I did some things that college students would do. Now tell me how many kids do things that college students do. You would think its something really boring to do but it’s really cool! I also had the opportunity to drill and paint.

Before I joined this program, I would never think I would want to become a botanist or somebody that grows plant but my mind changed. I would never think that I would be interest in plants or things that has to do with plants. This program made me more interest in plants. I would never think that is very fun to grow and take care of plants. This program change the way I look at plants. I would recommend this program to all my friends. When I first heard of it, I thought it was going to be just another program but on the first day, I knew I have to participate in this program next year. I would just to say thank you to Dr. Sat for having me in this program. It was a great opportunity for me.
