About:
My name is Areli Veliz and I am a high school student who has dreams as others students of my age. I am a person who likes to think that everything that happens is because it has to. I love the arts. I think they show our souls, feelings, our beauty and even the beautiful and peaceful green and blue colors of nature that for me represent the life. Life - a great experience but where did life come from? I‘d always asked myself since I remember, but I couldn’t find the right answer. That’s why I became interested in science. I like biology and genetics. They are a different ways to see the life in small pieces, which only make the miracle of life more exciting and interesting. One of my biggest dreams is to be accepted in Harvard or Rockefeller University.
This summer program helped me to explore new fields in science which make me realize that I am taking the right decision in become a scientist. This investigation I made with the help of my mentors was more than excited. It made me realize that the science is not a game, where you are going to create whatever you mind or brain is thinking. It made me see that we should take this matter seriously. It is a work where the moral and ethic is necessary. I put all the devotion in it, maybe because I am the first in my family that is going to a university but I can’t help myself to have a great passion for science. I also want to study this subject because I hope one day I am going to find the cure for diabetes and finally I am going to be able to help my mother and sister to eliminate that disease that has torment them for a long time. That is the real me - an adolescent that worries for the health of her family and dreams that she would find a cure to all this kind of diseases through mutations and cloning, and becoming a great scientist.
