About:

The medical field is where I wish to pursue a career in the future. My dream is to be a pediatrician. That is why I try to participate in various programs that will help me get on the right path. And that is why I was very obliged to be chosen for the HCS Research program.

At first, I was nervous when I had to go through the interview. I knew I was going to be up against many other qualified students. I was hoping I would be able to get chosen, because I knew that this was a good opportunity and that it is very rare to be able to work with real scientists hands - on. I knew that the HCS Research program had a lot to offer for young adolescents.

I think that the Harlem Children's Society is a wonderful program. Dr. Sat Bhattacharya brings a great opportunity to teenagers to gain new knowledge. This program allows adolescents to do something positive with their time and to be headed onto a positive path in life.

For my summer research I analyzed the chemical composition of Westchester Creek using Solid Phase Micro-extraction with gas chromatography. Basically what I did was test various water samples and analyze what was in them. Westchester Creek happened to be the most interesting.

The weekly HCS talks were very informative. I along with others learned new things every week. I will be able to know more about medicine and understand that there are various topics within it.

This experience will help in the future because I will be able to show other schools and programs what I have done. I have also learned new knowledge that I will be able to pass onto other people.
