Jing Wei ZhangClass of 2005 - Present H.S. for Dual Language and Asian Studies Topic: 2006 RNA Interference Topic: Draft Drawing on Computers About: September 2004, I came to U.S.A. from China . In the summer of 2005, I enrolled into this program. Through this program, I learnt a lot about U.S.A. and advanced knowledge about architecture. About three months before the end of the term, Dr Sat came to our school to interview us. He asked us to talk about ourselves, our families, our interests and so on. The interview was very relaxing. We all enjoyed the talking very much. One month later, Dr Sat sent the result to our teacher. The one who was selected would go to Dr Sat's lab to fill out some forms. Then, the program began. There were thousands of HCS Research programs such as disease research, biology research, environment research, architecture research. Our research programs were arranged according to our interests. Each of us would have a professor as a mentor. They would teach and helped us during the researches. I was arranged into an architecture research program and worked in HOK for a summer. . . . .Besides this “drawing research”, I did another market research. The topic was “ the Top 30 Biotechnology Companies in NY, NJ and CT”. First, I had to identify the top 30 companies. But there were totally about 500 biotechnology companies in NY, NJ and CT. It was impossible to compare them one by one. . . .Through this research, I developed better skills of searching on internet and I knew more about biotechnology such as how the company ran, how the drug was made. It was really a good experience. Every Monday and Friday, we had a lecture in MSKCC. Each time, five members would make short presentations to report what they were working on. Through their presentations, I learnt a lot of professional knowledge in different areas. Further more, their presentations reminded me that everyone was working assiduously on their researches, I couldn't fall behind. It gave me the power to finish my researches as prefect as possible. So I liked to go to the lectures and never be late. Sometimes some other professors would come and gave us speech es . We all listened very carefully. The ambience was just wonderful and we all got new ideas and knowledge from the speeches. I would say the lecture s w ere the great est part of this program . I had I exciting and helpful summer. These experiences will surely help me in the future. First, I have got some valuable working experiences what can never be learn from the books. It will really help me in my future working. Second, I learnt some advanced knowledge about architecture. Knowledge can never be useless. I n the future, I may not be a building designer. But this knowledge can still help me in many ways. I may draw some stuff just for some relaxation. Or I may teach my children this knowledge to help them with their homework. This w ill also be great, isn't it? Third, through this program, my ambition-to be a professor-became more resolute. I have a strong feeling that if I work hard for my goal, someday I will surely achieve it. I think this is the most valuable thing this program gives me. I will work hard and never give up, everything will be fine. To other students, I will say that this is really a good program. I hope everyone can try hard to enroll into this program. Once you enroll into it, I am sure you will have great experiences. |
